Did you know

That the IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (the current British Standard) requires:

  • Every Circuit has to be protected by an RCD or RCBO (protection against shock under fault conditions)
  • Every circuit to have its own MCB (protection against over load & short circuit)
  • All installation work undertaken to be Inspected, Tested and Certified by a qualified competent person
  • Under 'Building Regulations Part P'; Local Authority Building Control must be notified, depending on the location and nature of the work.

Old Fuse Boards

Do the fuseboard(s) in your home have any of the following:

  • Mounted on wooden back plates
  • Have rewireable fuses
  • Have replaceable fuse cartridges
  • A single "On / Off" switch
  • Damage to the fuse board cover / casing
  • None working circuits

If you have answered yes to any of the above, you probably need an upgrade!

An Old, Rewirable Fuse Board - potentially dangerous and by current standards possibly unsafe.

Take Action Now

Many homes in the UK still have Old Fuse Boards and/or old wiring. This can include cables coated in black rubber, material insulation, aluminium conductors, no RCD protection, no earthing, no bonding and/or supplimentary bonding.

If you have any of the above, a Full Electrical Inspection would be recommended.

Dangers Of Old Wiring

According to Government Statistics, 10 people die each year and 750 more are injured in accidents involving unsafe Electrical Installations. If your Installation is more than 10 years old, it may need upgrading or rewiring.

If you have an old style consumer unit or fuse board, it really is time to have it upgraded. A modern consumer unit CAN save your LIFE with its built in electric shock protective devices (RCD'S). An old style consumer unit offers no personal protection from electric shock.
